TURKMENBASHI, Turkmenistan -- The government of Turkmenistan has awarded RWE Dea a concession to explore and develop license block 23 in the Caspian Sea.
The license area comprises about 940 sq km (363 sq mi). RWE Dea plans to undertake an environment study during the initial exploration phase and a 400-sq-km (154-sq-mi) 3D seismic test, taking account of 2D material already available. An exploration well will be drilled once seismic testing is complete.
