    The semisub Kan Tan IV has spudded the Trefoil 2 gas appraisal well in the Bass basin, according to operator Origin Energy.

    ADELAIDE, Australia -- The semisub Kan Tan IV has spudded the Trefoil 2 gas appraisal well in the Bass basin, according to operator Origin Energy. The vertical well will appraise the Trefoil gas field discovered by Trefoil 1 in 2004.

    The well has a planned total depth of 3,221 m (10,568 ft). The primary objectives are the gas-bearing sands intersected in Trefoil 1 within the Paleocene and Cretaceous Eastern view coal measures. After the evaluation program, the well will be plugged and abandoned.
