STOCKHOLM -- The semisub Transocean Winner has spudded the 25/4-10S well on the Viper prospect in block PL203 in the North Sea sector of the Norwegian continental shelf, according to Marathon Petroleum Norway. The well will be sidetracked (as well 25/4-10AS) to the South Kneeler prospect.

The Viper well targets an Eocene injected sandstone reservoir similar to the Volund field, the company says. The South Kneler well aims at the main Paleocene sandstone sequence, which represents the reservoir in the Alvheim field. The company is considering connection to the FPSO Alvheim via existing subsea templates.
