Ocean Vanguard cleared to drill for Statoil

OSLO -- Norway’s Petroleum Safety Authority has approved Statoil’s planned exploration drilling program in the Norwegian Sea with the semi-sub Ocean Vanguard.
The consent applies to well 6608/10-14 S in production license 128, around 165 km (102 mi) west of the island of Vega. Water depth at the site is 352 m (1,155 ft). Operations are due to start at the end of January, with an estimated duration of 47 days.
Ocean Vanguard, operated by Diamond Offshore, is a third-generation semi-submersible of the Bingo 3000 type, built in 1982
