RIO DE JANEIRO -- Well 1-OGX-2A-RJS in the Campos basin has hit pay, according to OGX. Preliminary log analysis proved oil shows in the cuttings and presence of natural gas, the company says. The well struck a 50-m (164-ft) oil column and net pay around 15 m (49 ft) with up to 22% porosity in carbonate reservoirs in the barremian section. The drilling of OGX-2A is now in its final stage.

The well is in the BM-C-41 block and in a water depth of 130 m (427 ft).

“These carbonate reservoirs, primarily coquinas, are traditional producers in the southern part of Campos basin and were expected in our models for this area,” says Paulo Mendonça, OGX's general executive officer.
