Dabakan-1 well hits pay in South Sulu Sea

The Dabakan-1 well in the South Sulu Sea has hit pay, according to operator ExxonMobil.

TAGUIG CITY, Philippines -- The Dabakan-1 well in the South Sulu Sea has hit pay, according to operator ExxonMobil. The well encountered reservoir sands and hydrocarbons, the company says.

The rig West Aquarius will drill the well further to a total depth of approximately 5,000 m (16,400 ft). This will set a record for the deepest drilled well in the Philippines.

The company is conducting data analysis and additional studies to evaluate the potential of the find. The company also plans to drill a second well in the area.
