STAVANGER -- Wildcat well 6507/3-6 in the Norwegian Sea is dry, according to Det norske oljeselskap, operator of production license 383. The objective of the well was to prove petroleum in Middle to Lower Jurassic reservoir rocks. The well encountered rocks of considerable thickness and satisfactory reservoir quality in the Tilje formation from the Early Jurassic, the company reports.
The semisub Bredford Dolphin drilled the well to a vertical depth of 1,650 m (5,414 ft) below the sea surface. The well was terminated in rocks from the Early Jurassic (Åre formation) and will now be permanently plugged and abandoned.
