OSLO -- Wildcat well 6609/10-2 in the Helgeland basin is dry, according to operator Det Norske Oljeselskap.

The objective of the well was to prove petroleum in the reservoir rocks in the Lower Jurassic (the Båt group). The well encountered reservoir rocks with expected thickness and good reservoir quality.

The Songa Delta drilled the well to a total vertical depth of 2,499 m (8,199 ft) below the sea surface. It was terminated in Upper Triassic rocks and will now be permanently plugged and abandoned.
