CAIRO -- The jackup Comet will shortly spud an exploration well on the Burtocal North prospect in the Egyptian Gulf of Suez.
According to partner Beach Petroleum, well NS394-3, 3 km (1.86 mi) north of the NS304-1, 1A oil discovery in the North Shadwan concession, will target oil in the Cretaceous Nubia formation. Planned drilling depth is 3,475 m (11,400 ft).
In the Bass basin offshore Tasmania, Beach is taking delivery of the semi-sub Ocean Patriot which will drill the Spikey Beach-1 exploration well in the T/38P concession.
The well – due to spud early next week, depending on weather - will target recoverable oil of 16-41 MMbbl in the Upper Eastern View Group.
