Iran to step up offshore drilling program

Iran Oil Offshore Co. (IOOC) currently has 12 drilling rigs active in the Persian Gulf, with 20 expected to be in service by the end of the current Iranian calendar year.

TEHRAN -- Iran Oil Offshore Co. (IOOC) currently has 12 drilling rigs active in the Persian Gulf, with 20 expected to be in service by the end of the current Iranian calendar year.

Shana, IOOC, and National Iranian Drilling Co. are also aiming to install an onshore rig on the main platform at the Salman field, according to the country’s Petro-energy Information Network. Preparatory construction work is in progress at the Fajr Shiraz industrial complex.

IOOC’s Mohammad-Samsam Sakhiravi said development drilling will be the company’s most important activity over the next few years.
