OSLO -- Wildcat well 6605/1-1 in production license 328 is dry, according to StatoilHydro.
The purpose of the well was to prove petroleum in Upper Cretaceous reservoir rocks. No mobile hydrocarbons were proven, the company says. Rocks with good reservoir quality were encountered in Upper Cretaceous reservoir rocks.
The well was not formation-tested, but extensive data collection and sampling of the reservoir were carried out. The licensees will now evaluate the results to determine the resource potential in the production license.
The semisubmersibleTransocean Leader drilled the well to a vertical depth of 3,945 m (12,943 ft) below the sea surface. The well was concluded in the Nise formation in the Upper Cretaceous and will now be permanently plugged and abandoned.
Transocean Leader will now move on to production license 327 B in the Norwegian Sea to drill wildcat well 6705/10-1 where StatoilHydro ASA is the operator.
