PERTH, Australia -- Woodside Petroleum has acquired five new exploration blocks this year in the Carnarvon basin offshore Western Australia, and plans to drill 20-plus exploration wells, the first towards year-end.

The company is also in talks with owners of various gas fields in the basin about development opportunities.

As for fields already in production offshore Australia, Woodside recently drilled a sixth production well on Enfield and a paired water injection support well. At the Laminaria-Corallina project, the company successfully drilled the Corallina-2 sidetrack, and this will shortly be tied back to the FPSO Northern Endeavour, lifting production.

At Vincent, damage to the FPSO’s compression module caused by a fire in April was rectified in mid-June. Since re-starting, the facility has been stable and was recently producing oil at 28,700 b/d.
