HOUSTON – Anadarko’s latest deepwater frontier wells off northwest Africa were both water-wet.
TheMercury-2 appraisal well in block SL-07B-11 off Sierra Leone was drilled in 5,950 ft (1,815 m) of water, 7.5 mi (12 km) northwest of the Mercury discovery well and 1,300 ft (400 m) down dip. It intersected more than 885 ft (270 m) of water-bearing, reservoir-quality sandstones in the targeted Cretaceous interval.
The partners plan to integrate data from Mercury-2 into modelling for both the Mercury structure and future drilling prospects in the area.
Anadarko’s Kosrou-1 exploration well in Cote d’Ivoire block CI-105 was drilled in 7,464 ft (2,275 m) of water. It encountered 312 ft (90 m) of reservoir-quality sandstones in the primary target that were water bearing.
Once operations are completed, the rig will mobilize to drill the Paon-1 prospect in block CI-103.
