RIO DE JANEIRO – Petrobras (PBR:NYSE) says drilling data from a well testing the Carcará prospect in the Santos basin has confirmed a good-quality oil discovery.
The well was drilled in block BM-S-8, 232 km (144 mi) offshore São Paulo state, in a water depth of 2,027 m (6,650 ft) in the presalt region.
To date drilling has proven a continuous oil column of 171 m (561 ft), says Petrobras. New oil samples of around 32° API were collected from reservoirs at subsurface depths of up to 5,910 m (19,390 ft), confirming the continuity of the find.
The well is at a depth of 5,926 m (19,442 ft) and still within the oil zone. The aim is to determine the lower limit of the reservoirs and the total thickness of the zones of interest.
Petrobras is the operator, in partnership with Petrogal Brasil, Barra Energia do Brasil Petróleo e Gás, and Queiroz Galvão Exploração e Produção.
