LONDON – Diamond Offshore’s semisub Ocean Guardian has completed its long tour of duty in the offshore North Falkland basin.

The rig has been towed successfully from Rockhopper Exploration’s 14/15-4 well location. This was the final well in Rockhopper’s first drilling campaign in the region, using this rig, which has lasted from mid-April 2010 through January 8, 2012. Ocean Guardian also drilled wells for Desire Petroleum.

Rockhopper Chief Executive Sam Moody said: “We have operated 10 wells, conducted two drill stem tests, two short offset sidetracks and collected in excess of 450 m (1,476 ft) of core with the Ocean Guardian on hire to us for a total of 397 days.”

The campaign, he added, brought successes in seven of the wells, which were mainly directed at the Sea Lion structure, and included three oil and three gas discoveries, various productive appraisal wells and another successful appraisal well on the Casper prospect.
