RIO DE JANEIRO– Petróleo Brasileiro S.A. has released new information regarding the Carcará presalt prospect in ultra-deepwaters of the Santos basin offshore Brazil.
Following the initial discovery, operations continued for evaluation purposes, and more producing zones were found. Drilling now is at 6,213 m (20,384 ft) inside an oil zone and will continue in order to find the total thickness of the zone and to look even deeper for more pay.
Testing has resulted in new samples of 31 º API oil taken at 6,131 m (20,115 ft). Further,the carbonate reservoirs have good porosity and permeability.
The well is 232 km (144 mi) off the coast of São Paulo State, in water depths of 2,027 m (6,650 ft).
The consortium is operated by Petrobras (66%) in partnership with Petrogal Brasil (14%), Barra Energia do Brasil Petróleo e Gás Ltda. (10%), and Queiroz Galvão Exploração e Produção S.A. (10%).
