RIO DE JANEIRO – Petrobras confirms a new deepwater oil discovery in the Ceará basin.
The Pecém well was drilled 76 km (47 mi) offshore Paracuru county, Ceará state, in a water depth of 2,129 m (6,985 ft). Drilling, currently at 4,410 m (14,468 ft) subsurface, will continue to 5,500 m (18,044 ft).
The discovery occurred in siliciclastic reservoirs of the Paracuru formation, and was verified by logging analysis and results of wireline tests. Fluid samples collected from the well indicate a liquid hydrocarbonate which will undergo laboratory analysis.
Petrobras operates theBM-CE-2 concession with a 60% interest, the remainder held by BP. The partners plan to check the extension of the new discovery and define the permeability and porosity of the reservoirs.
