OSLO, Norway --Total E&P Norge’s latest exploration well has found oil in the Trell structure in the central Norwegian North Sea.
The semisubLeiv Eiriksson drilled well 25/5-9 10 km (6.2 mi) east of the Heimdal field in 121 m (397 ft) of water on production license 102 F.
The well intersected a 21-m (69-ft) gross oil column in the Heimdal formation, of which 19 m (62 ft) were of good reservoir quality. It also encountered the oil/water contact.
Partner Ithaca Energy estimates recoverable reserves in the range 3.1-12.5 MMbbl.
Leiv Eiriksson next heads to PL 420 in the northern Norwegian North Sea to drill an appraisal well for RWE Dea Norge.
