MELBOURNE, Australia -- The Crux-4 appraisal well in exploration permit AC/P23 offshore Browse basin, Western Australia, is drilling ahead at a depth of 3,541 m (11,617 ft) TVD subsea in a 12.25-in. (31-cm) hole, says Nexus Energy Ltd.
Nexus holds an 85% interest and Osaka Gas Crux Pty Ltd holds 15%.
Over the course of the next week the anticipated operations will be to drill to the planned 3,958 m (12,986 ft) TVD subsea and to run wireline logs.
The Crux-4 aims to test the South East Horst extension of the Crux field. The South East Horst lies outside of the Crux 'core' area and the reservoir distribution information expected from this well is likely to have implications for further field appraisal and near field exploration such as the nearby Auriga prospect in the AC/P23 exploration permit, Nexus said.
Crux-4 is the second of three wells to be drilled in the greater Crux area. The third well, Libra-1, is scheduled in the adjoining AC/P41 exploration permit, in which Nexus holds a 50% interest in conjunction with its partner Shell Development (Australia) Pty Ltd.
