AUKLAND, New Zealand -- Attempts to recover the stuck pipe in the 8 ½-in. (21.6-cm) section on the Kupe South 7 (KS-7) well offshore Taranaki basin in New Zealand have been abandoned and preparations are under way to side track and redrill the reservoir section, according operator Origin Energy Ltd.
The Kupe Project drilling campaign is being undertaken on a "batch-drilling" basis. This involves completing the same section of each of the three wells before proceeding to the subsequent section; a more efficient approach than drilling the wells separately, Origin says.
