SINGAPORE -- Singapore Petroleum Co. Ltd. and its partners in block B have begun drilling the block's first exploration well, Vimean Morodok MahaNorkor-1.

The exploration well will be drilled primarily to test the hydrocarbon potential in the Oligocene fluvio-lacustrine sediment; but also to test the Miocene fluvial-deltaic sediment reservoirs. The well is anticipated to reach a TVD of 2,917 m (9,570 ft). Drilling is expected to take 15 days to complete.

The exploration prospect is offshore Cambodia, east of the Khmer sub-basin, in 75 m (246 ft) of water. The well is 160 km (99 mi) southwest of Sihanoukville.
