STAVANGER -- Wildcat well 2/9-4 on production license 273 in the North Sea is dry, according to ConocoPhillips.
TheMærsk Gallant drilled the well to 5,455 m (17,897 ft) vertical depth below sea level and terminated in Permian rocks. The well will now be permanently plugged and abandoned.
The purpose of the well was to prove petroleum in reservoir rocks from the Upper Jurassic, as previously proven in the Hejre discovery in block 5603/28 on the Danish shelf. No mobile petroleum was found in the reservoir rocks, which were of thin thickness and poor reservoir quality, the company says.
