MILAN -- Eni and Sonangol E.P. have made a new oil discovery in the deep waters of block 15/06 offshore Angola. The discovery well Ngoma-1 was drilled in 1,421 m (4,662 ft) of water to 3,383 m (11,099 ft) TVD, encountering an oil column of 127 m (417 ft) in high permeability Miocene sands, according to the companies.
The well tested 22.5º API gravity oil at higher than forecasted rates, confirming the high mineral potential of block 15/06. This discovery, located close to the recently discovered Sangos field, will be followed by other exploration wells on other nearby structures, providing significant potential to achieve synergies in the development of the western area of the block, the companies say.
