NEW YORK -- The A1-54/01 well in the Arous Al-Bahar prospect offshore Libya has hit hydrocarbon pay, according to Hess Corp. The well was drilled to a depth of 11,077 ft (3,376 m) in 2,807 ft (856 m) of water. It encountered a gross hydrocarbon section of approximately 500 ft (152 m) at various intervals, the company reports.

In Egypt, the Dekhila-1x well in the West Mediterranean (block 1) deepwater area has struck a gross hydrocarbon section of 148 ft (45 m) at multiple intervals. The well, located 45 mi (72 km) offshore within the Nile Delta basin, was drilled to a depth of 8,881 ft (2,707 m) in 3,883 ft (1,184 m) of water. The results of Dekhila-1x will be incorporated into engineering studies for the wider West Med development, the company says.

In Ghana, Hess has completed drilling operations on the Ankobra-1 well, located on the Deepwater Tano Cape Three Points license, without encountering commercially significant hydrocarbons. The well was drilled to a depth of 13,000 ft (3,963 m) in 5,682 ft (1,732 m) of water. Hess is currently acquiring 625 sq mi (1,619 sq km) of new 3D seismic in anticipation of a well to be drilled in the unexplored western half of the license area.
