LONDON -- Gulfsands Petroleum well No. 17 in Eugene Island block 38 has hit natural gas in multiple pay zones, according to the company.

The well was drilled to 11,443 ft (3,488 m) TVD. Gulfsands' preliminary analysis of the well logs indicates total net pay of approximately 121 ft (37 m) from multiple pay zones within high quality Miocene aged reservoirs. The hydrocarbons encountered are natural gas with associated condensate. Production casing has been set and the well is being prepared for tie-in to the EI 57 platform.

First production is expected in August.
