Petrobras contracts Sevan Brasil for six-year drilling term

Petrobras SA has awarded Sevan Drilling a $975-million contract for drilling operations off the coast of Brazil, in water depths up to 2,400 m (7,874 ft).

RIO DE JANIERO -- Petrobras SA has awarded Sevan Drilling a $975-million contract for drilling operations off the coast of Brazil, in water depths up to 2,400 m (7,874 ft).

TheSevan Brasil will have a variable deckload of more than 15,000 metric tons (16,534 tons) and a high storage capacity of bulk materials and drilling fluids. The secluded moonpool area reduces the environmental impact of potential oil spills, according to Sevan Drilling.

The drilling contract will have a fixed term of six years with start-up within Dec. 31, 2012.
