RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil –Petróleo Brasileiro SA has revealed more of its plans for future drilling rig contracting. Petrobras' executive board has approved contracting of 12 ultra deepwater rigs, 10 of which are to be Brazilian owned.

The dozen rigs are part of Phase 1 of Petrobras/ 40-rig demand for 2017. In view of local construction capacity, Petrobras says 10 of the 12 rigs will be built elsewhere for delivery in 2012.

Petrobras says the implication of its total drilling rig demand is that major investments will be made in infrastructure in the country to bring its capacity up to requirements.
