Cairn India secures Sri Lanka exploration acreage

The government of Sri Lanka has awarded an oil and gas exploration license in the Mannar basin to Cairn India.

SRI LANKA -- The government of Sri Lanka has awarded an oil and gas exploration license in the Mannar basin to Cairn India.

Block SL 2007-01-001 is offshore northwest Sri Lanka and covers approximately 3,400 sq km (1,313 sq mi) in water depths from 200 m (656 ft) to 1,800 m (5,905 ft).

Cairn India has a working interest in 14 blocks in India, two of which are producing hydrocarbons.
