LONDON -- Hardy Oil and Gas has spudded its first exploration well, KGV-D3-A1, on the KG-DWN-2003/1 (D3) exploration license on the east coast Krishna-Godavari deepwater basin in India.
Semisubmersible drilling rig C Kirk Rhein spudded the exploratory well KGV-D3-A1 in 720 m (2,362 ft) of water.The well is targeting 2,959 m (9,708 ft) MDRT to explore hydrocarbon potential within the Pleistocene and Miocene formations. The Pleistocene target is a deepwater fan complex and the Miocene target is an unconformity trap.
Hardy Exploration & Production (India) holds a 10% participating interest in the D3 exploration license. Reliance Industries is the operator and holds a 90% interest in the block. The D3 exploration license is in phase one, which provides for the drilling of six exploration wells.
