NORWICH, UK –Venture Production Plc has ordered a full-bore high-pressure/high-temperature drilling riser from Acteon for delivery in 4Q 2009 to the North Sea.
Claxton Engineering, 2H Offshore, and Subsea Riser Products, all part of the Acteon Group, will provide the 18 ¾-in full-bore access riser capable of working pressures exceeding 12,000 psi (82.7 MPa). Acteon says this will be the first full-bore access riser capable of those pressures. In another first, the flanges connecting the individual pipe sections will attach with a shrink-fit process.
SRP and 2H have undertaken development and testing to qualify this technology
Claxton will provide a range of ancillary equipment, including an umbilical, wellhead and BOP connectors, a tensioning ring, and a hydraulic power and control system. A team from Claxton will be responsible for running and pulling the riser on the rig, and for its inspection and maintenance.
2H carried out the initial riser design and analysis work, and SRP has led the development of the new shrink-fit technology. SRP is ultimately responsible for supplying the riser, which has 13 main sections plus fatigue-critical, tapered stress and tension joints.
