OSLO, Norway -- The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) has approved ConocoPhillips Skandinavia’s plans for wildcat drilling in the Norwegian North Sea.

The Maersk Gallant will drill well 7/11-12 S in production license 301 CS, covering an area 20 km (12.4 mi) southwest of the BP-operated Ula field, and comprising parts of block 7/11.

NPD says sections of the license are divided stratigraphically, and relate to the level under Top Cretaceous. This will be the first exploration well in the license.
