CONSTANTA, Romania – The jackup drilling rig GSP Orizont has started its journey to Ciudad del Carmen, Mexico, for a drilling contract in the Gulf of Mexico.

The cantilever-type rig was originally built in 1982 then upgraded last year, undergoing final preparations for its forthcoming program at the Lamprell shipyard in Hamriya, UAE. It is being transported to Mexico onboard the semisubmersible heavy marine transport vessel Swan.

Another GSP Offshore-owned cantilever jackup, theGSP Atlas, is also undergoing a repair and reclassification program in preparation for a new drilling campaign. This rig was built in 1982 then re-built in 2007, under supervision from Germanischer Lloyd. It will be transported onboard the semisubmersible barge Swift.

GSP says it has invested $66.5 million since 2005 in modernizing the two rigs.
