ABERDEEN, UK -- Engineering consultancy Cognity will provide mechanical design services to Castle Rock Engineering for a drilling project in the Caspian Sea.

The contract will support the second phase of development for a steerable drilling conductor for use in the region.

In phase one of this project, Cognity used ANSYS simulation and prototyping software to develop a concept for accurate placement of the conductor casing, which it claims was 75% faster and more cost-effective than conventional design methods.

The scope for phase two includes design optimization, manufacturing support, and prototype testing of the steerable drilling conductor.

Cognity will also design installation aids, test frames, and the transportation equipment needed to assess the tool prior to land trials next year.
