VICTORIA, Australia – Karoon Gas Australia Ltd. says operator ConocoPhillips has approval from the Australian Department of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population, and Communities to begin drilling offshore in the Browse basin.

Three permits are involved, and Karoon Gas says at least four wells are planned for WA-315-P and WA-398-P, and one on WA-134-P based on new Poseidon 3D seismic data and processing.

Karoon says drilling should begin in 4Q 2011 and run between 18 months and two years. The permits are 350 km (217 mi) offshore northwestern Australia.
