OSLO, Norway – Ophir Energy has completed drilling the Kora-1 exploration well in the AGC Profond PSC offshore Senegal/Guinea-Bissau.
According to partner Rocksource, final wireline logging is in progress and the well will be plugged and abandoned as a dry hole.
Kora-1 was drilled by the Maersk Deliverer drillship in 2,600 m (8,530 ft) of water, targeting a salt-cored, dip-closed anticline. The well was drilled to a TD of 4,447.5 m (14,591 ft) subsea.
Formation evaluation while drilling (FEWD) data showed that the primary (Albian) and secondary (Coniacian and Barremian) reservoir intervals were penetrated close to the forecast depths. However, the well encountered a largely claystone and thinly bedded limestone sequence rather than the prognosed sandstone reservoir facies.
Without these, Rocksource adds, it is difficult to immediately assess the potential for hydrocarbons on the available FEWD data. Fuller analysis will be needed before the partners can determine the implications for prospectivity in the PSC.
