Statoil to drill north of Ekofisk

Petroleum Safety Authority Norway has approved the use of jackup Maersk Gallant for exploration drilling in the southern Norwegian North Sea.

OSLO, Norway – Petroleum Safety Authority Norway has approved the use of jackup Maersk Gallant for exploration drilling in the southern Norwegian North Sea.

The rig will drill well 2/4-21 for operator Statoil, with a further option for a side track, 2/4-21 A. The location is in production license 146/333 in 67 m (220 ft) water depth, around 13 km (8 mi) north of the Ekofisk complex, and 260 km (161 mi) offshore.

Drilling should start in early August, with a minimum anticipated duration of 166 days.
