STAVANGER, Norway – Statoil has proven further oil with its latest appraisal well on the Aldous Major South structure (PL 265) in the Norwegian North Sea.
Well 16/2-10, drilled by the semisub Transocean Leader in license PL 265, encountered a 50-55 m (164-180 ft) oil column in Jurassic sandstone.
Statoil previously estimated recoverable volumes in the Aldous structure in the range 400-800 MMboe. It will update this figure when data from the latest well, including core samples of the entire reservoir interval, have been fully analyzed.
The well was drilled 4.2 km (2.6 mi) north of the 16-2/8 discovery on the Utsira High feature. It was also the sixth exploration well to date in the license.
