HP/HT gas strike for ConocoPhillips offshore Norway

ConocoPhillips Skandinavia has proven gas with two wildcat high-pressure/high-temperature (HP/HT) wells in the southern Norwegian North Sea.

OSLO, Norway – ConocoPhillips Skandinavia has proven gas with two wildcat high-pressure/high-temperature (HP/HT) wells in the southern Norwegian North Sea.
Both well 7/11-12 S and side track 7/11-12 were drilled on license PL 301 CS by the Maersk Gallant in 72 m (236 ft) water depth, 19 km (11.8 mi) southwest of the Ula field.
According to the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate, well 7/11-12 S encountered a 40-m (131-ft) gross gas column in Jurassic (Ula formation) reservoir rocks. Reservoir quality in Triassic rocks was poorer than expected.
The side track, drilled higher on the structure on a separate segment, delivered a 34-m (111-ft) gross gas column, also in the Jurassic Ula formation.
Further evaluation will be needed to determine the size of the discovery.
The rig will P&A the wells, and then head to PL 146 in the same region to drill wildcat well 2/4-21 for Statoil Petroleum.
