Statoil resumes search around Aldous Major in North Sea

The semisubmersible drilling rig Transocean Leader has started drilling an appraisal well for Statoil on the Espevær/Aldous Major South structure in the Norwegian North Sea.

STAVANGER, Norway – The semisubmersible drilling rig Transocean Leader has started drilling an appraisal well for Statoil on the Espevær/Aldous Major South structure in the Norwegian North Sea.

The well aims to test the northern continuation of the Aldous Major South discovery in license PL265 and the western extension of the Lundin-operated Avaldsnes discovery in PL501. Main objective is the Upper Jurassic sandstone reservoir.

Planned TD is 2,132 m (6,995 ft) below mean sea level. Drilling should take 50 days.
