Miocene deepwater find for ONGC
Offshore staff
NEW DELHI, India – ONGC has notched a deepwater gas discovery offshore India.
Well MDW#13 was drilled in NELP block NEC-DWN-2002/2 in 1,171 m (3,842 ft) of water, to a subsurface depth of 4,904 m (16,089 ft).
According to ONGC, interesting sands (in terms of hydrocarbons) were encountered in a Mid- to Late-Miocene section.
Straddle packer open-hole MDTs were carried out at five places, all yielding gas.
The find is in geographical and geological contiguity of earlier ONGC finds in blocks MN-OSN-2002/1 and MN-DWN-98/3.
