EDINBURGH, UKCairn Energy says its current five-well exploration drilling campaign offshore Greenland will continue through the end of this month to allow activities on the last two wells in the Atammik block to complete.

The semisub Leiv Eiriksson is drilling the AT7-1 well in the Atammik block in the South Ungava Area, in 909 m (2,982 ft) of water, 202 km (125 mi) offshore Nuuk.

To date the well has encountered a 113-m (371-ft) gross interval with around 50 m (164-ft) of reservoir-quality sands of Cretaceous age.

However, mud losses and poor hole conditions have hampered full evaluation of this interval which is of interest because of oil and gas shows. Part of the interval is behind casing.

An intermediate logging program continues across the cased and open hole sections of the well, and the well will be deepened to reach the anticipated TD. At this point a cased hole Modular Dynamic Tester (MDT) program is planned with the aim of recovering fluid samples to surface.

In the same block, the drillship Ocean Rig Corcovado is working on the AT2-1 well in a water depth of 1,045 m (3,428 ft), 180 km (112 mi) offshore Nuuk and 46 km (28.6 mi) from AT7-1.

This well has reached TD at 4,847 m (15,902 ft) in Cretaceous sediments having encountered minor hydrocarbon shows. Logging operations are under way.
