Statoil to drill North Sea wildcat close to Ekofisk

Statoil has authorization from the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate to drill an exploration well in the southern Norwegian North Sea.

OSLO, Norway -- Statoil has authorization from the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate to drill an exploration well in the southern Norwegian North Sea.

The jackup Maersk Gallant will drill well 2/4-21 in production license 146, which was originally awarded to Saga Petroleum in 1988. It comprises parts of block 2/4.

The well will be drilled roughly 18 km (11.2 mi) north of the Ekofisk field.
