HOUSTON – Apache Corp. says a subsea survey using an ROV is continuing at its East Cameron block 278 platform B in the Gulf of Mexico to identify the source of a disturbance identified on Jan. 16.

There is no sheen or other evidence of a hydrocarbon leak as of Jan. 18, and the ROV survey results will determine the next steps, Apache says. Spill response vessels are on location.

In the morning of Jan 16, Apache workers spotted bubbling at the surface near the platform and light hydrocarbon sheen was noted. P&A operations were under way at the time.

The facility is in 168 ft (51 m) of water about 90 mi (145 km) offshore.
