Statoil cleared for Oseberg area North Sea well

Statoil has permission from the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate to drill a wildcat in the Oseberg area of the Norwegian North Sea.

OSLO, Norway -- Statoil has permission from the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate to drill a wildcat in the Oseberg area of the Norwegian North Sea.

The semisubmersible Ocean Vanguard will drill well 30/11-8 S in production license 035, 20 km (12 mi) southwest of the Oseberg Sør field. This will be the sixth exploratory well on the license, comprising parts of block 30/11, which was awarded in 1969.

Statoil is operator, in partnership with Det norske oljeselskap and Svenska Petroleum Exploration.
