Atwood opts for third new jackup

Atwood Oceanics Pacific Ltd. has exercised the first of three options for a turnkey newbuild jackup drilling rig.

HOUSTON – Atwood Oceanics Pacific Ltd. has exercised the first of three options for a turnkey newbuild jackup drilling rig. PPL Shipyard Pte Ltd. will build the Pacific Class 400 rig for delivery on June 30, 2013.

The rigs will have a water depth rating of 400 ft (122 m), accommodations for 190 crew, and offline handling equipment. Total cost is given as $190 million.

This rig will be the 14th mobile offshore drilling unit owned by the Atwood. AOPL and PPL have option agreements for up to two more Pacific Class 400 jackups which require AOPL commitment by June 30, 2011 and Dec. 31, 2011.
