STAVANGER, Norway -- The semisubmersible West Alpha has started drilling an exploration well in the Norwegian North Sea targeting the Svaneøgle prospect for Noreco.

Well 17/6-1 is in production license PL545, 100 km (62 mi) southeast of Statoil’s Grane field in the central part of the Norwegian North Sea.

Noreco’s partners are Spring Energy and Petoro.

In other North Sea projects where Noreco has an interest, Statoil recently started drilling a combined exploration/production well (A-14 A) in the Brent formation of the Brage field.

In the Siri area of the Danish sector, Noreco says an attempt to repair the SCB-1 well was unsuccessful, and operator DONG Energy is currently evaluating new measures to bring the well back onstream.
