Maersk authorized for Norwegian Sea probe

Maersk Oil Norway has approval from Petroleum Safety Authority Norway to drill an exploration well in the Norwegian Sea using the semisubmersible drilling rig Transocean Winner.

OSLO, Norway -- Maersk Oil Norway has approval from Petroleum Safety Authority Norway to drill an exploration well in the Norwegian Sea using the semisubmersible drilling rig Transocean Winner.

Well 6406/3-9T will be drilled in production license 431, 12 km (7.4 mi) south of the Åsgard field. Water depth at the site is around 316 m (1,037 ft).

Drilling will last 54-116 days, depending on whether there is a discovery followed by testing and potential sidetracks.
