Statoil, Lundin get go-ahead for wells offshore Norway

Statoil has authorization from the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate for an exploration well in the Barents Sea, using the semisubmersible West Hercules.

OSLO, Norway – Statoil has authorization from the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate for an exploration well in the Barents Sea, using the semisubmersible West Hercules.

The rig will drill wellbore 7219/8-2 in production license 608. This will be the first well in the concession, which was awarded in 2011.

Petroleum Safety Authority Norway has given Lundin Norway the go-ahead for exploration drilling in PL 544 in the central Norwegian North Sea.

The semisubmersibleBredford Dolphin is expected to spud well 16/4-7 this month. The program could last 21 days, depending on whether a discovery is made.
