Lundin confirms Neiden discovery in the Barents Sea
The semisubmersible Leiv Eiriksson has completed Lundin Norway’s discovery well on the Neiden structure in the Norwegian Barents Sea.
Well 7220/6-2R, re-entered after the initial drilling in November 2015 was suspended, was in 387 m (1,270 ft) of water in license PL609, 60 km (37 mi) northeast of the company’s Alta discovery on the Loppa High.
It encountered a gross 31-m (102-ft) hydrocarbon column, with 21 m (69 ft) of oil and 10 m (33 ft) of gas in the Permian Ørn formation target. Lundin estimates the resource in the 25-60 MMboe range.
Analysis of the well suggests a high-quality karstified carbonate reservoir which reduces the risk of the Børselv prospect, 15 km (9.3 mi) to the north and updip from Neiden, which could be drilled during 2017.
TheLeiv Eiriksson will transfer to the Filicudi prospect in PL533, northwest of Alta and south of the Johan Castberg discovery. Lundin hopes to prove up to 258 MMboe in Filicudi within a Jurassic sandstone reservoir though to be analogous to Johan Castberg.
