Premier makes oil discovery at Bagpuss in North Sea
Premier Oil says an exploration well on the Bagpuss prospect in the UK central North Sea has encountered oil, in line with pre-drill estimates.
The13/25-1 well was drilled on the Halibut Horst in the Outer Moray Firth, reaching a TD of 1,532 ft (467 m) in granite basement.
It intersected 41 ft (12.5 m) of hydrocarbon-bearing sands within a 68-ft (20.7-m) hydrocarbon column. The sands have porosity in the range of 25-33%, and indications are that the oil is heavy.
P&A operations have started.
Robin Allan, Premier’s director of exploration and North Sea, said: “The Bagpuss well has proven a significant volume of oil in place.
“We will now work with our partners to carry out a full analysis of the hydrocarbons and reservoir encountered to ascertain whether commerciality can be established.”
